My reason for visiting Spain was not very practical.
Its amazing that after I made the decision (with no money saved), it took me 3 months, and I was in Spain.
This definite decision was made in December 2014 when I found out that my parents were going to London for my dad's 60th birthday. I wanted to be a part of his birthday, so when my brother jokingly suggested we go to London to surprise him, I thought... why not?
I realize now that the only thing that was holding me back from going to Spain ( for 8 years) was myself, and my excuses.
Thoughts like.. I have no money, I have no time, I have no one to go with, had stopped me from pursuing my dream to visit Spain.
I overcame these excuses by realizing that I'm will never have enough money until I plan to save my money and not spend it on ridiculous things like shots, and an 89th pair of shoes.
My decision to actively save money changed everything. Every other decision I made after deciding to go to Spain was done with my end goal in mind. Money problem solved!
The second excuse was that I had no time, which ultimately came down to money. I did not have enough vacation time, and would need to take some unpaid days off.
What did I do? I saved more money!
Lastly I was worried that I had no one to go with. I cant possibly go halfway across the world alone now can I?
I got over this by remembering my lonely nights when I lived alone for 3 years. It would be too cold to go outside, so I will curl up in bed to watch some lame movie...which left me hating life, and thinking that I was going to die alone in the cold, and no one will find me for days.
Glad I got past that one!
During my time of solitude, I learnt how to be content with myself, and how to enjoy my own company. So now I figured if I could get away with living alone for that long, I could go to Spain alone.
So I went!
I was still very scared, but did it anyway.
Now I can brag about my awesome experience. The great wine I drank, the peace of mind I felt while sitting in Santa María la Real de La Almudena ( a beautiful Cathedral in Madrid), and my awesome new friends I made!
This trip taught me that I can do anything, if I stop making excuses.
Below are a few pictures from my awesome trip!
